Jonas Hirvonen produced the All Seeing Eye, an automapping and general utility for Eye of the Beholder 1 & 2. Needs a refresh function, currently once something is mapped, it stays mapped. One approach is to make a backup copy of each Explored_#.dat file whenever you save the game. Then when you need to load, you shut down ASE and replace the relevant Explored_#.dat files with the backup copies. These files are found in the EOB1 or EOB2 folder (of ASE) as the case may be.ĭeleting the Explored_#.dat file will get rid of the map for that level altogether. If you initially explore a new level after the last save is made, if you reload you will need to get rid of the map for the new level. Paul Schrader continues to explore whether bad people can be redeemed with Master Gardener, which forms a loose trilogy with First Reformed and The Card Counter. Saving, there may be up to six EOBData#.sav save game files at once. ASE can detect which was the last one saved. You would want one folder for each set of Explored_#.dat files. Loading, a menu will appear and the default choice will be the last game that was saved. Needs ability to add finishing touches, walls where the party could not reach. "Explored maps are saved only when the user makes a save at the game" Quote from: Ishad Nha on January 31, 2017, 01:19:18 AM There is an Explore Level function which explores the whole level, but it is excessive when you only want to tidy a few loose walls. "Save at the game", that means choosing "Camp > Game > Save > Yes" in the EoB# menus? Does this include ASE's Backup saves? If not, player should save in EoB# immediately before making a Backup save. Spells have been changed slightly from the first game, so be sure to memorize and pray for spells at the start of the game, and then rest.Yes, ASE checks the save game file dates and if there's a new save made ASE saves the save game file + explored map files to ASE_x-folder where x is the save slot number.īackup just copies those files to a backup folder. We've tried to make our maps as clear and sensible as possible, which means they don't always follow the game's Cluebook or ASE. The EOB2 maps have a lot of levels and sublevels, where the difference is arbitrary. You'll encounter cursed items in the game, so always identify an item before equipping it, or have a Remove Curse spell available. ![]() Level 2, middle sewers WHERE: There are four dagger-shaped carvings on the walls throughout the level. REWARD: A curved dagger named Guinsoo, later revealed to be a +4 dagger. There is no time limit in the game, so you can rest as much as you want. WHERE: Go to the alcove in the southwest of the map, which contains two scrolls. To identify an item, the mage must be holding it when they cast the spell. So it's a good idea to have a variety of classes and races in your party.ĮOB2 includes the Improved Identify spell, so you no longer have to rely on orbs and oracles. Welcome to a walkthrough of the Eye of the Beholder, a classic RPG by Westwood Associates based on the Second Edition of AD&D. For example, thieves will notice hidden buttons, and mages will notice illusionary walls. In many places in the game, certain classes and races can notice things. If you create a new party, we'd recommend going with a Paladin, Ranger, Cleric and Mage/Thief (or build a pure mage and then recruit Amber later). EOB2 seems like it was tuned for an imported party, so if you don't use one then you'll have a much tougher time. The Quick Start Party and any newly created party will have a lower level and much worse equipment than an imported party. The Quick Start Party is pretty good, with nice stats and maximum hit points. EOB2 will then allow you to import any four characters from that save into the game. To import your characters from EOB, you'll need to move a saved game file from that game into the EOB2 directory. If you use DosBox for this mapping, then you'll also need to map the reverse (7=A, 5=S, and so forth), or it won't work. ![]() We always remap the numpad keys to WASD for moving and turning, plus QE for strafing: That would leave you with an awkward set of keys to manage, but you can use DosBox to remap them (by pressing control-F1). ![]() If the key doesn't always register for you, then you can use the PgUp key instead. We used ASE when writing the walkthrough.ĮOB2 has a problem with the numpad-9 key, which is used to turn right. It makes EOB2 much friendlier to play, which might be a good thing or a bad thing depending on your point of view. It provides auto-mapping, save backups, item identification, and more. A useful tool when playing Eye of the Beholder II (EOB2) is theĪll-Seeing Eye (ASE).
